چکیده
West African dwarf crocodiles (Osteolaemus sp. nov. cf. tetraspis) are among the most threatened crocodilians in world due to unregulated hunting and habitat loss-related population decline. Despite this, many questions about their basic ecology remain unanswered this inadequate data hampers effective crocodile management. We describe incubation temperature, nesting success, hatching rate, clutch size of crocodiles. monitored 18 nests from 2017 2018 seasons Chirehin Community Land—a highly disturbed agricultural matrix climatic transition zone Ghana. used Hobo tidbit® loggers monitor egg chamber temperature effect ambient on nest temperature. The daily mean recorded during study was 30.7°C (±SD = 0.8°C, n 240, range 28–33°C) it is congruent with reported value for species. findings suggest a weak positive no correlation between indicating almost independent found 8 eggs per (SD ±2; 5–13; 17) supporting previous reports that genus has low size. success across two were 77.8% 75.3% ±41.9, 18), respectively. Three destroyed by flood one an unknown predator suspected be Nile lizard. Generally, selected forest patches within landscape need protect remaining patches. Efforts should made repeat species’ improved understanding its ecology.

متن کاملProminent Signs of Oestrusin the West African Dwarf Goat
In order to study the signs of œstrus in the West African Dwarf goat, 28 non pregnant females younger than 24 months of age were used. Most of them (94.7%) had waggled the tail during heat. The frequency of micturition was higher in the presence of the male. The swelling of the vulva was observed in 68.4% of goats in heat. The cervico-vaginal mucus was significantly (P≤0.05) abundant and elasti...
متن کاملInfluence of naturally unilateral cryptorchidism on the histomorphometry of the testes and daily sperm production in West African Dwarf goats
Quantitative histology of the descended testis of unilateral cryptorchid bucks was compared with testis of normal bucks to evaluate the reproductive potentials of the scrotal testis in unilateral cryptorchids, using light microscopy techniques. The contralateral scrotal testes of the unilateral cryptorchids and the testes of the normal bucks contained profiles of seminiferous epithelium and eac...
متن کاملEvaluation of the morphological features of the uterine tubes during postnatal development in West African Dwarf goats (Capra hircus)
The objective of this study was to highlight the postnatal development of the uterine tubes of the West African Dwarf goat from birth to 28 weeks of age by gross examination and light microscopy. There was a caudal migration of the paired uterine tubes from behind the paired kidneys at birth to the pelvic inlet at week 8 of age. Each uterine tube exhibited three segments namely; infundibulum, a...
متن کاملSpatial Ecology of Estuarine Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) Nesting in a Fragmented Landscape
The role that oil palm plays in the Lower Kinabatangan region of Eastern Sabah is of considerable scientific and conservation interest, providing a model habitat for many tropical regions as they become increasingly fragmented. Crocodilians, as apex predators, widely distributed throughout the tropics, are ideal indicator species for ecosystem health. Drones (or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs))...
